Eleven years of parenting and I still don’t know if I’m doing it right.

Eleven! How did that happen?

I swear it was only five minutes ago I was holding him in my arms for the first time, breathing in that newborn baby smell, and now my car smells like a mix between a foot and a Lynx Africa can.

Parenting boys is a journey.

One minute they’re begging you not to leave them at kindy and can only nap lying on top of you, the next they’re body slamming each other, kicking twenty soccer balls over the fence, bombing the pool loud enough for the neighbours to know, arguing, screaming, giving you the finger, and then, two minutes later, sobbing in your arms needing a bear hug.

But there’s something about this age that’s really special, it's the in-between of still needing you but also starting to find themselves.

Harry asked me if I’d cry today because he’s growing up.

I told him, “If I do, it’s only selfish tears because I never want to let you go. But just know that at the same time, I’m so excited to see you grow, find your purpose, and become who you’re meant to be.” It made him smile...

If you’re in the thick of it too, the sport runs, the growing pains, the attitude, the constant eating, and that daily question of ‘are they listening to a word I say?’ - they are.

They’re watching. They see how we handle things. They take it all in.

And then one day out of the blue, you hear your own words come out of their mouth and think, damn, they do listen 😅.

It’s a day-by-day rollercoaster of ups and downs, but I’ll take it all, the eye rolls, the mornings where I’m screaming the same instructions for the hundredth time (“brush your hair and teeth, why is it so hard?!”), the ride or die love, the surprise cuddles, and all the chaos in between.

It’s all magic and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I don’t want to sound dramatic, but this week nearly broke me (and the school musical might finish the job).
I’ve worked in my PJs twice: no shame🙈

Mornings are an Olympic sport around here. Getting everyone out the door while trying to make it to my desk on time should count as an entrance exam into some elite, high-pressure industry, ideally one with a psych evaluation that measures how you keep your cool under pressure.

It’s nearly year-end — sales planning, Christmas campaigns, counting down for the break. Work is mental!

Meanwhile, the kids are deep in swimming carnivals, puberty is knocking loudly at the door, and there’s a school musical that, for my boys, feels like being cast as the lead in Swan Lake.

We’re only two weeks in to the term and the youngest has already needed a mental-health day after being bullied, while the eldest is too distracted by birthday countdowns to notice the chaos around him, let alone the chaos he causes🤪.

One swears he’ll change the world; the other’s convinced he can’t do anything right.

And my mum keeps saying, “I don’t know how you do it all.”

Honestly? Half the time I don’t either.

But I’m guessing working in my PJs has played a huge part in staying on top of things this week.

I used to believe in balance, but when you picture those old-school scales, everything has to be pretty damn controlled for it to stay even. I may be a control freak but not even I can keep it that even.

Maybe balance isn’t even the goal.

Maybe it’s knowing that some days feel steady, and the next might be chaos.

One day you’ll nail a big project, and the next you’ll be back in your PJs dealing with the proverbial sh*t show.

And just when you think you’re done, your friend sends a meme that cracks you up, you grab an ice pack for the brother who just took a soccer ball to the face, pour a glass of wine that takes the sting out of the chaos, and a client messages to say, “Woohoo, we did it!”

And you remember this is just how it goes.

Maybe that’s the balance. Not perfect. Just real.

That one hits home, because I’ve built my work around quality and never been about cutting corners.

I sweat the small stuff. It’s my strength… and sometimes, my downfall😬😬

When you care about the details, it can feel like you slow down to a snail’s pace. You start wondering if you’re overthinking, wasting time, or just too slow for how business “should” move.

But I’ve learned that slow isn’t wrong.

Slow builds things that fast can’t.

When you take your time, there’s a depth that naturally forms whether it's in your work, your words, or in your decisions. It’s the kind of depth you can’t fake with shortcuts or speed.

We live in a time where fast is sold as success. But I’ve seen what that pace does. It burns people out. It strips the joy from creating. It keeps you chasing the next thing before you’ve even had time to appreciate what you just built. And it pushes us to rush things we actually care about, leaving us with work that doesn’t quite feel like what we envisioned in the first place.

I’ve realised that when I let the process take the time it needs, the end result always has more heart.

Because slow doesn’t mean stuck.

It means thoughtful.
It means aligned.
It means real.

And honestly, I think that’s the kind of business (and life) we’re all craving more of. When I look around, I see a world moving faster than ever but not necessarily better.

Because when we chase the fast and the cheap, it always comes at a cost.

Not just in quality but in how it makes us feel.

It builds resentment. It burns people out. It leaves us doing more to make up for the shortfall. And slowly, we start to accept that rushed and reactive is just how business works.

But it doesn’t have to be.

There’s something really satisfying about taking your time and doing the job properly, caring about the details, and knowing it’ll last. That’s where the magic is; in the doing, not just the done.

And maybe, that’s exactly what we need more of... a little less rush, a little more care.

It’s been a while, crocodile! But I promise I’

It’s been a while, crocodile! But I promise I’ve got good reason! TBH I’ve been flat out, and now here we are with the end of the year fast approaching (always the most exciting time in business).

At the start of the year, I said I wanted more slow mornings, more focus on personal goals. And while no “personal goals” have landed (unless you call two bathroom renovations a goal😅), it’s definitely been a personal year.

We’ve had our share of hurdles. What mattered most wasn’t ticking off career goals this year but showing up where I was needed for cuddles, laughs, wiping away tears and the everyday things that matter most as a mum.

I’ve been so consumed with client work and supporting my family that my own marketing has slipped😬🤪#awkies

I haven’t been practising what I preach, but I'm ok with that because we have been kicking goals anyway!

I’ve seen the most incredible projects come to life, hundreds of thousands in revenue unlocked from systems they had barely touched, engagement rates soaring once we stopped chasing the wrong metrics, and new processes built that are going to transform client experiences.

Their businesses have thrived because the strategies we put in place gave them clarity and results.

So here we are in October, fast approaching the biggest time of year for ecomm and many small businesses and I realised it was about time I pulled my finger out and gave my own business some love so it can continue to thrive… especially as we start planning for next year.

And as I’ve been doing that, I thought to myself you probably need the reminder too😅

Sp don't forget there’s still time to:

💖Set that Black Friday sale in motion.
💖Map out the last three months of 2025 to maximise revenue.
💖Start thinking about 2026 so you’re not scrambling when January hits.
